To inform future programming, The Commons is offering funding support to attend virtual conferences between May and August, 2020.
JumpStart Funds are intended to support new and budding relationships between KU Researchers across areas of expertise and specialists off-site.
The Commons Starter Grants are intended to nurture and develop interdisciplinary, collaborative research ideas at the conceptual stage. Starter Grants support the initial stages of the development of research and creative ideas that may be overlooked by more conventional disciplinary funding sources. They provide funds for collaborative, interdisciplinary research teams who seek to find their common language and methodological approach. Starter Grants take into consideration projects with potential to develop into proposals for RIC awards. Awards are supported by KU Research.
The Commons offers a platform for the creation and presentation of innovative, experimental, interdisciplinary installations, performances, or other artist projects. Site-specific projects should incorporate and directly respond to the space of The Commons located on the main level of Spooner Hall. Since The Commons is envisioned as both a physical and an intellectual space for convergence of interdisciplinary inquiry, proposed projects should relate to The Commons both physically and intellectually. Projects should be designed with the Spooner Hall premises and its many uses in mind, with an awareness that the space supports various programs and activities (from symposia to musical events to catered receptions). Moreover, projects should exhibit strong interdisciplinary elements addressing the programmatic theme for the year at The Commons and integrating aspects of the arts, humanities, and sciences.
