The Commons announces spring events for care and well-being series
LAWRENCE — How do we practice care? This question is at the heart of a weekly series of programs offered at The Commons in collaboration with the Institute for Policy & Social Research Center for Compassionate and Sustainable Communities.
Each Wednesday at noon at The Commons, the series will feature a different topic related to well-being and care and include a component of guided practice. The series aims to devote time to considering the ways we practice care as individuals, in communities and as a campus, full of resources to broaden understanding. It will highlight a variety of aspects of well-being, with special attention to the expectations of higher education.
Upcoming sessions will address:
- Jan. 22: An introduction to a new hope-based psychotherapy clinic in the University of Kansas School of Education
- Jan. 29: A look at how care practice can be used to counter oppression
- Feb. 5: An exploration of the relationship between self-care and mental health
- Feb. 12: An examination of pace, productivity, and pleasure in the academy
This series is led by The Commons and the IPSR Center for Sustainable and Compassionate Communities, with additional KU partners, and it has featured presenters from a variety of centers on campus and in the community. This semester will include student, faculty, staff and community speakers. Events feature topics significant to faculty, staff and students, though all events are free and open.
